Patents are registered with the Institut National de la Propriété Industrielle(INPI).
Since 2018, patent applications, with the exception of patents presumed to be sensitive in terms of security and defense, are to be filed online on the INPI website.
Patent applications are always submitted to the national office. Each country has its own office. At European level, applications can be made to theEuropean Patent Office (EPO ) to obtain an industrial property title valid throughout the European Union and a list of additional countries.
Although international patents are possible in some cases, there is no procedure for protecting your innovation worldwide. To obtain IP protection in several countries at the same time, you need to apply for a patent extension via the PCT procedure, make an application in each of the territories concerned, or use the European patent. Utility certificates, provisional patents, designs and trademarks are also protected by territory.
