Working with an Industrial Property Attorney can help you identify IP opportunities. But also to identify the scope covered by patent registration, so as to protect your invention without limiting its use. Security and Defense projects require certain levels of discretion.
Interview with Thomas Duroyon, CEO of TRAAK, a French start-up specializing in geolocation trackers and customized biometric tracking for constrained environments. 100% of TRAAK’s activities are carried out in-house and in France.
YesMyPatent: What are your plans for Defense & Security over the next five years?
Thomas Duroyon: TRAAK has developed Cavalry, a connected impact-detecting fabric, for its own needs and for customer partners such as DEEPCOM. These technological building blocks can be incorporated into broader defense & security systems, such as the connected soldier or indoor operational tracking.
Over the next five years, TRAAK will continue to develop customized geolocation and/or biometric tracking systems, focusing on operator safety and performance. TRAAK is also focusing on the in-house development of innovations relating to cooperative/non-cooperative tracking, and UAV navigation in Denied GNSS environments and in silent RF mode.
💡 On June 16, 2023, TRAAK, NEXTER (a KNDS company) and EOS Technologie signed a contract with the French Defense Innovation Agency to develop a new type of medium-range remotely operated munition in France. This technology has so far been absent from the French military arsenal. This is an incredible opportunity for the French startup, for whom national sovereignty is a major issue.
YesMyPatent: Is your differentiation strategy linked to an industrial property strategy?
Thomas Duroyon: TRAAK provides its customers with innovative solutions to meet their needs, through technological innovation or innovation in use.
Our R&D phases lead to Industrial Property opportunities, but not all of them lead to a patent. We distinguish between a solution, which. will only be used on one project, and a brick that solves a technological lock, with broader applications. YesMyPatent ‘s support for TRAAK gives us a clear vision of our ability to protect IP. But also of these bricks, and of the limits and risks associated with the discretion required on these projects.
The firm’s extensive experience, led by Magali Touroude, Lieutenant-Colonel in the Gendarmerie Nationale’s Citizen Reserve, enables us to make informed decisions. YesMyPatent supports numerous companies in the Defense and Security sector, including the Gendarmerie Nationale, so we’re in good hands.
Strategic decisions on industrial property choices upstream of any distribution guarantee a competitive edge for our licensed products or solutions.
