Samsung wins patent for flying drone with screen

When a company obtains a patent for an invention, it becomes the sole owner of the right to use it. In return, the contents of the patent are made public. By keeping abreast of the latest patent news, we are in a position to make the wildest assumptions about future technological uses. In fact, even if a patent is registered, this does not give us any information about its actual use, when there has been no official communication on the subject.

A drone with a screen that follows your gaze

We could be living in a science-fiction story! Samsung, well known for its work in the field of electronic devices, has obtained a patent for the concept of a drone equipped with a screen that follows its user’s gaze. According to the Dutch magazine Let’s Go Digital, which describes Samsung’s technical solution, this is a flying screen. It would then be able to interact with voice commands, a wireless connection and geolocation.

The only limits to such an invention are those of the imagination. Imagine a screen that could follow you around your home to respond to your requests. At a time when major companies such as Amazon, Google and Apple are publicly developing their personal assistance solutions, particularly in the field of home automation, Samsung could well be bringing about a revolution here. Artificial intelligence could even bring a touch of humanity to this drone by imitating human communication. What if the scenario in Spike Jonze’s film Her (2014) was actually quite realistic?
